Sweet Words & Sweet Treats: Italian Almond Cookies at Beyond Fun!
Wednesdays at Beyond Fun go beyond dessert: they're about meaningful connection and learning new ways to work and communicate together.
In our dessert cooking class, all participants collaborated to make Italian almond cookies, following each stage: mixing, shaping, and baking. The kitchen buzzed with excitement as everyone supported one another, shared utensils, and watched their cookies take shape. Smiles abounded (and plenty of "mmm, that smells amazing!") as the cookies baked.
But today wasn’t only about creating something yummy; it was also about building specific life skills, such as teamwork, effective communication, and confidence.
Along with cooking, we had a brief lesson on gentle communication, focusing on using positive, respectful words. Participants learned how to make a good impression, create a supportive environment, and boost their own and others’ self-assurance by choosing their words thoughtfully.
After baking, we held a practice session where participants and staff honed kind, confident communication. It was inspiring to see everyone participate, encouraging one another, using friendly language, and fostering genuine teamwork.
Today reminded us that at Beyond Fun, learning recipes is just the start; we're building a caring community where skills and relationships grow, all with a touch of dessert magic.
